En 1995, la guerre en Bosnie a atteint son point culminant. Le 11 juillet, le général Mladic, chef de l'armée bosno-serbe, s'empare de l'enclave musulmane de Srebrenica, placée sous la protection de l'ONU au titre de la Résolution 819. Sous les yeux des casques bleus, les soldats serbes trient les civils et séparent les hommes des femmes. Alors que les femmes sont conduites hors des lignes serbes, environ 8 000 hommes disparaissent. Quelques jours plus tard, un policier français, Jacques Calvez, est chargé par le Tribunal pénal international pour l'ex-Yougoslavie d'enquêter sur ce qu'ils sont devenus.
